Tanooki Branding

Logo / Design / Direction

Brand identity and logo design for Tanooki, an online post-production platform. The icon is a geometric abstraction of the Japanese tanuki’s face markings, a subtle nod to the brand’s name, crafted to convey a sense of established, modern, and tech-focused style. Delivered as a full design system including logo suite, colour palette, typography, UI elements and motion principles.

Branding & Logo Design

Overview

Tanooki is an online post-production collaboration platform used by editors, directors and producers working across remote workflows. They needed a brand identity that felt established, credible and tech-forward, something that could stand alongside major software platforms while still appealing to the creative teams who use it daily.

Brand Strategy

To meet the brief, the design system was built around clarity, confidence and long-term scalability. The goal was to create a brand that feels mature, trustworthy and premium, with a modern aesthetic that avoids short-lived trends while still carrying personality and craft.

Concept & Cultural Reference

The name Tanooki comes from the Japanese tanuki, a raccoon dog associated with cleverness and adaptability. Rather than using a literal character, I created a geometric abstraction of the tanuki’s facial markings. This approach keeps the cultural reference subtle while ensuring the icon remains modern, symbolic and highly functional across digital environments.
